What is Reiki?

REIKI (pronounced “RAY-key”) is a Japanese word meaning universal life/light healing energy.

To speak of Reiki is to speak of Dr. Mikao Usui. A Dr. of Philosophy, Dr. Usui spent over 10 years in the early 20th Century in extensive study, meditation, chanting, and fasting , bringing order to the ancient discipline known today as Reiki. Today, the practice has gained popularity as a methodology to assist individuals in finding mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual flow in their lives.

In important ways, our bodies are much as a flowing river. There is an ebb and flow to our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual processes.  In our lives, pain, illness, fear, stress, and emotions can disrupt our personal flow.  Reiki energy can lift and remove unwanted energies, creating a more balanced flow in health and wellbeing.  In addressing both chronic and acute conditions, Reiki is gaining acceptance as a complement to medical treatments. Examples of this are found in Hospitals, Birthing Centers, Oncology, psychological counseling, and massage therapy.

How Reiki is performed?

Reiki is performed, fully clothed, with light hands touching the body, or above the body, in methodical positions, by a trained practitioner.  Reiki can be received in many settings, chair, bed, couch, massage table, even long distance.  It is a gentle powerful system, which is often described as deeply relaxing, calming, and creating a sense of elevated wellbeing.

Reiki can reduce or even alleviate pain and stress. It can promote rejuvenating sleep. Relaxation in itself lends to a wide spectrum of healing energy, and balance. When we flow, life flows.

What Reiki is not

Reiki is not a Magic Wand. It is not massage or diagnostic. Reiki is an approach and pathway for relief from disruptions in order to gain balance and healing. The success of the Reiki process is aided by the receptiveness of the receiver, and the proper training of the giver.

Can I do Reiki on myself, and where?

Anyone and everyone can learn and perform Reiki. It is an ancient practice, but not mysterious one.

In Sothern Oregon, Reverend Krista Thompson have been teaching three levels of Reiki since July 2003.

Reiki I, addresses the physical level

Reiki II, the mental, emotional self

Reiki III, the Master Level, the spiritual body

The beauty of Reiki is that anyone can perform this wondrous healing energy on themselves, family, friends, community, and the world. One only needs the desire, intentions and appropriate training by a Reiki Master.

One of the joys of Reiki is letting go, being nurtured, and cared for.
